  • Food plots planted
  • Trails cleared
  • Electrical Repairs
  • Great weather
  • Camp fires and drinks

Parking lot with the new Caddy Side by Side

Shawn on the Ribs!......

Seems that we nicked the electrical when we did install of water in the clubhouse.  Generator was tripping when the breaker was on for the pavilion.  The old guys dug new line, put wire in underground casing and rewired the breaker box.  Young guys rewired the pump, outlets and lights.

Deer Camp 2016

Another deer camp in the books!  As usual, everybody had a great time.  There was, however, a gigantic hole in the festivities this year--no Cookie!  We all missed our boy, "Love Ya Man!", you will never be forgotten.

Members present included:  Mac, Kolbs, Shawn, John R., Knife, Chad L., Garcia, B.J., and Pete.

New construction in camp--roof on the Bemis!  Thanks Shawn, looks great and doesn't leak.

Mild weather put the old fire pit to work!  Nights were spent around the pit as we told lies and attacked the unprotected.

We even got a few games of Euchre in!  Had to reteach Boozer.  He learned well enough to give us all his money!

New blind on Eighty this year!  The singing group Chad and Jeremy constructed a blind at the top of the hill where Cookie used to hunt.  Nice blind, saw lots of deer, even killed a couple out of it.  Good work guys.
New Blind

Not only did we get deer, Chad removed a pesky coyote from the property.  Shot him on the South field.  Coyote was in great condition and he is going to get it tanned.  Another wall hanging for the man cave.
Culling the Herd
B.J. was the mighty hunter of the year.  It took him 30 years to get last years buck, and this year he scores again.  Mathematicians in camp calculated that he will not get another deer for 29 years.  He got this one by 3 Gates, out of his pop-up blind, on opening morning.  Good job B.J., now get back to being the outstanding whore we all know you as.  Clean them dishes!

2016 Youth Hunt/Work Camp

Members present:  John K., John M., John R, John B (way too many Johns in camp), Shawn, Kolbs, Chad C., Chad L, BJ, Dan, Jack, Jeff, Gage, Ben

Lots of things happening.

With the loss of Cookie we had to reassign duties for camp.  Positions and responsibilities were spread across the members.

New assignments:  JK and Kolbs, CEO's
Tresurer:  Kolbs
Project Manager:  Shawn
Grounds:  Bergen
Bemis Maintenance:  Dan/Chad
Food/Purchasing:  BJ/Mac

All went well except for Bemis Maintenance.  Discussion was held concerning their inability to manage their position.  Possible removal.  Committee was placed on Double Secret Probation.  Their future hangs in the balance.

New Metal Roof was installed by Shawn and his crew.  Four hours from start to finish.  Looks great.  Thanks Shawn.

Two new blinds were constructed.  Crocket's Cabin and Bergen's Cloud Nine.

2015 Deer Camps

Pete fills in for Cookster!
Both Bow and Rifle camps were greeted with warm weather and precipitation.  Bow camp was also a work camp and numerous projects were completed.  The wood supply was replenished from wood left on the West Field by the loggers.  The Knife brought the wood to the Eighty and a work tornado ensued.  Pete, Shawn, and Mac prepared a fish dinner from perch, walleye and salmon fillets.

Although Cookie couldn't make it to Bow camp, he was able to manage rifle camp.  Although limited in what he could do, he managed to make sure everybody stayed in line and nobody made any mistakes in the kitchen .  As usual, we ate well.  Shawn provided a midnite snack of Elk tenderloin.  Whoa!  Now that was good!  Jeremy made Bow camp, but was a casualty.  Seems the splitter is quicker than he is!  Trip to Tawas Emergency with Chad.  No broken bones, but his fingernail is still in his bloody glove.
Tenderloin!

HD to camp!
New addition to camp this year!  Chad/Jeremy (sounds like a 60's musical group) teamed up to bring HD TV to camp.  Chad used the hotspot in his Tahoe to link to Jeremy's computer/projector.  They brought up a portable projection screen and we were in business.  I'm thinking they might have to leave the entire video system in camp, including the Tahoe.
Shawn, BJ, and the Kitchen Nazi.

In preparation for the hunt numerous trail cam pictures were studied!  A number of shooters were recorded and even the Kaz was captured during one of his romps through the woods.

Come opening day, everybody headed for their blinds.  Shawn used the Knife's blind, Dan was on West end of the Eighty, BJ was at Three Gates, Tommy manned Doc's old blind on the fence line, Boozer was in his normal spot on the Northeast corner, and Mac, Kim, and Pete occupied the Hooka-Hooka blind in the sparse woods.

Now for the Deer Porn!  Shawn and BJ took nice 8 Pointers, Tommy a bambi, and Shawn harvested a couple of does.  Shawn tagged out, and BJ took his first deer in 30 years!  The Hooka-Hooka blind saw over 50 deer opening morning with at least 4 bucks in the groups.  All in all, one of our best camps ever........

Camp stories were countless!  Great campfires, and lively conversations.  Boozer stated that Tommy could probably get a pound of hot dogs out of his Bambi, Pete celebrated sunrise and continued on to the evening, Mac got a charley horse and missed an eight point shooter, Pete found himself unable to help BJ with the boiled dinner (over celebration)and Shawn filled in.  Great fellowship, lots of laughs lead us to a great 2015 camp.

2014 Deer Camp

Mountain of Stir Fry!  Ummmm....
Well, I saw this stump moving to the East......
No Steve, don't do it.....
Doing what they do best!
Deer Camp 2014 is over.  Weather was COLD, and deer were scarce.  Cookie, Kolbs, Chad, Dan, Shawn, Pete, Tommy, Mac, Boozer were the main hunters this year.

Knife had to miss opening day, he had a wine tasting gig with a bunch of women.  Guess that's the price you pay when you go to Ontario for 12 days!

Pretty quiet in Camp, Tommy spent most of the time being scared shitless.  Seems Dan was in bunk above Tommy, and the boys started talking about how the bed would would collapse causing Dan and his C-Pap battery to come crashing down on Tommy.  It was late, and the drama got better with each comment.  Shawn was going to take Flattened Tommy home and slip him uder the door. Chad was going to just put a postage stamp on him and send him home.  Tommy suddenly left and went to bunks.  He took slats out of other bunks and put it above his (under Dan). We don't think Tommy slept a wink all night!

The great white spotter (Pete) Swears he saw a stump move East when he was in the blind.  Mac says it was due to number of liquid sandwiches that had been eaten!
Pete says that has not a thing to do with his vision
and the stump was actually moving East.  BJ has a new stump jumper, and he put that to work getting to his blind. Nice CanAm.

Tommy took a little more shit when he was calling Pete, "Steve".  We asked Tommy if he knew a "Steve" and he said "Nope, can't say that I do".  The rest of the Camp, poor Pete had to answer to the name of "Steve"

The Secret Super Savage made another appearance at camp.  Seems this deadly hunting rifle is actually a high tech military killing machine wrapped in the skin of a Savage 300.  We couldn't really talk about it much, it is highly secret, but we do know that it had to be sent to Quantico for assessment and maintenance on an annual basis.  Although the bucks were scarce, we had a great camp.  Good friends having a good time, you can't beat it.  We look forward to our next Camp which will probably be the Winter Fishing Camp..........
Solving the World's Problems, one at a time!

Deer Camp 2013

Deer Camp 2013 has come to a close. Members present included: Mac, Shawn, Kolbs, Cookie, Boozer, Tommy, Pete, Garcia, DD, and BJ. Kaz and Zeke also were present. Shawn got only deer, a nice 8 point. Hunting was less than ideal, late nights seems to have a bad effect on hours hunted. Shawn only made it to 6:00 p.m. one night, and DD fell flat on his face as he attempted to plug in battery charger. New 12 volt lighting system worked great. Flip a switch and you have GOOD light, no need to run generator. This saved us a ton on gas, and the generator noise is eliminated. Mac, Kolbs, and Pete hunted out of Hooka-Hooka and saw lots of deer, just no shooters. Boozer and Cookie hunted on East end of North Eighty and also saw deer. BJ was out East and saw nothing, we will move him next year. Meals were outstanding, as usual. I think this camp has the best chefs in Michigan! I really dont need to eat for another month. You may have noticed the name change to Boozer. Seems one night, kind of late, he kind of stood up, then exclaimed that we could take the "No" off his name. Highly appropriate for the moment. Cookie made a lot of new friends in his blind. Rocky, Boris, etc... were all ground squirrels that paid him a visit. He fed them and reported daily about their activities. We were all enthralled with his stories. Dave installed numerous "Deer Aids" in his hunting area, even a motion detector to wake him if he is sleeping. Wow! We even have a motion detector on our road now. Try sneaking up on us. I'm feeling like Michigan Militia right now. Shawn finished and installed the new Bar. I think it is nice, but I really couldn't see it, Mac and Pete set up camp at the bar and never left. I think they like it. A great camp, with many memories. Look forward to 2014.

Fall 2013 Work Camp

Garage door gone.
New window in place!

New sink in place!

Formica in place

How sweet it is!

Fully functional

Project almost finished,
Now the room needs to be rearranged!
Fall Work Camp was highly successful!  Mac and Shawn decided Cookie needed a new work space, and they made it happen.  They made the plan, and went to work.  The rest of camp just followed directions and got out of the way.  We really had little idea of what they had planned.  One word describes what they did, "WOW!"   We removed old garage door, installed new, big window, and installed cabinets.  Thanks to Shawn and John, the place looks great.

Members present:
Mac, Shawn, Kolbs, Deck, Tommy, Knife, No Boozer, Cookie, Dan

Spring Turkey 2013

Ahhh, let the Turkey pictures begin.  I got shut out this year, so I'm using an old picture to make me feel better.  Guess that is the bloggers privilege!  Notice the lack of the gunslinger moustache.

John (No Boozer), aka JAB, shot a really nice Tom in the South sparse woods, south of the pond.  This is his first turkey, and a good story came with it!  Some say it may have been dumbest turkey in the woods, I think that JAB just confused him with his unorthodox techniques. Regardless, nice bird JAB, you are the man!

First part of week was cold with snow, rain, sleet, and hail!  Later in the week it was campfire city!  Notice the new campfire couch.  It was to good to be true.  Couldn't burn it, so we saved it for another camp.  Covered it and put it under cook shack roof.
Just a little gathering at the Sportsbar.  Lots of stories, not much truth.  Choose sides, choose fast, change often.  Never have truer words been spoken.  Some things never change and that is a good thing!

Now, let's talk food!  Shawn and Aaron set a new standard for camp meals.  Smoked two briskets, and one loin.  Dry rub, and in smoker by 10 a.m., meal at 7:00 p.m.  I wasn't real sure about their methodology, but it came out great.  Might have been the beer consumed.  I'm sure they can never repeat process, it is lost in a trail of alcohol.

Members present:  Garcia, JAB, Cookie, Kolbs, Aaron, Shawn, Mac, BJ, Kris, Kyle, Knife

Guests:  Klinger, Mrs. Knife

Great week!  Weather started out terrible with rain, snow, sleet, and hail.  By end of week the weather had improved and it was campfire season.  New UTV's were used to get campfire wood from Fredrick's.  That makes it pretty easy,  just drive up, cut, load.  Away you go!  Nice.

All the Turkey action was on south end of farm, behind the pond.  Cookie and JAB scored, Chad missed (he ducked).  Seemed the birds did not go North this year.  Numbers are down, but we should have done better than 2, guess you can't kill a bird if you don't leave the building!

Late nights prevailed.  Most of World's problems are solved.  Shawn got a hot crotch after pointing out Garcia's weight gain, loss of hair, and Paul Bunyan shirt that would not button on bottom.  Political discussions were heated, yet civil.

Meals were outstanding.  Shawn and Aaron smoked brisket/loin, Glumkies, Chicken cacciatore, grilled chicken, it was a very good week.

Activities included wood cutting, furniture camp fires (glad it had rained), new campfire couch, and washing the building down with TSP.  All the dirt, mold, and algae is gone.  Building looks like new.
